Had some genuine excitement when our car started to fill with some smoke an orderly evacuation (including those eating lunch) down the steep steps and out to the open- air observation deck even though all the lights went out, just as we entered a very long, dark tunnel. Lumber floating downstream, mills, farm lands, hay fields, horses. waiting for trains to pass going west loaded with potash, oil, coal, lumber, limestone, sulfur. Little track -side collections of houses. Everyone waves as we pass through small towns, villages. Wonderful noise, the clickety clack, the whistle. Early the next morning, before we were driven over to The Rocky Mountaineer train for our most amazing trip into the Canadian Rockies, we watched Cunard's Queen Elizabeth quietly snug up to her berth. An overnight stay right on the waterfront at The Pan Pacific hotel, which is also home to the busy cruise terminal. An on-time flight to that jewel of a Canadian city, Vancouver.
